1) Why doesn't Dr. Copeland want to give the five dollar prize to Lancy Davis?

Dr. Copeland didn't wnat to give thae prize to Lancy Davis because Dr. copeland felt that wasn't good to award a prize to a 13 years old kid for writting such wild composition which express his anxious of rebelion against the white people, even when it was the best essay.

2) Dr. Copeland says "When our people first heard of the birth of Jesus it was a dark time. Our people were sold as slaves in this town in the court house square. Since then we have heard and told the story of His life more times than we could remember. So today our story will be a different one." What story does he tell them? In what respect is it different?

Dr. copeland told to his people story about a wise, German man - Karl marx. Dr. copeland compare Karl Marx with Jesus Christ and said that both were understand person, the difference was that Jesus's mission concern about heaven or the future of the dead, and Karl Marx's mission was for the living.

Karl Marx said that the world was divided into two classes, the poor and the rich, no for the color of the skin. also said that for every rich man there were a thounsand poor people who worked for this rich man to make him richer.

3) Dr. Copeland quotes a phrase of Karl Marx's :" From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs". What do you think that means?

Karl Marx's mission was to make all human being equal and to divide the great wealth of the world so that there would be no poor or rich and each person would have his share. so one of the commandments of Karl marx "From each according to his ability, to each according to hi needs", Also mention that natural resource should belong to everyone, not to divided into little pieces, but used by all the people according to their ability to work.

Means that should not be privated properties, and  everyone should work in any area where knows to do the best, and earn accord to how much expenses have.

4) Dr. Copeland ask "What is the value of any piece of propertiy, of any merchandise we buy in the store?. What is the answer?

The value depends only in one thing, and that is the work it took to make or to raise this article. each article worth according how many people wwork in it for raise.

The cost of the merchandise is the pay for the labor that went to make it, but the profit get the bosses who control the workers.

5) Dr. Coplenad is speaking about the kinds of things that people say when they enter the essay competition on the topic, "My ambition: How I Can Better the Position of the NegroRace in Society." He says "I do not wish to be a servant! that is the desire I have read over and over in these essays. Servant? Only one in a thousand of us is allowed to be a servant. We do not work! We do not serve! What does he mean?

Dr. Copeland means that everyone is forced to sell their strength, their time, and their soul during almost every hour of their life, but  the labor they do is wasted because is not real use to anybody, so this is not service it is salvery.

For Dr. Copeland SERVE  means do something to help others , also raise theirself, like a professionals do, he said only one in a thousand is allow to be a servant, Dr. Copeland means that most of colored people are not allow to go to school, therefore they can not become a professionals to serve.

6) what do we discover about Dr. copeland's healt at the end of the chapter?

We discover that Dr. Copeland has problems with his lungs, he could see througth the X-rays that was something wrong, but he didn't have an exact pronosis.
